"Our mission is to bring the joy of musical theatre to everyone in our region."

James Humphreys, Chairman, Bishop's Stortford Musical Theatre Company

What we do

The Company started life as the Bishop’s Stortford Amateur Operatic Society (BSAOS) and it’s first production was in 1918 – The Duchess Of Danzig. The Company was disbanded in 1934 when the site at which the group performed was sold. Since reforming in 1963, BSAOS and then BSMTC has produced more than 50 shows.  We strive to encourage new talent from the local area as well as developing our existing company, enabling us to have a solid base of talented performing members.

Who we are

Bishop’s Stortford Musical Theatre Company brings entertainment, enjoyment and relaxation to the people of the town and surrounding villages. The Company puts on two shows each year and consistently achieves an extremely high standard; our orchestra is West End quality – as are our sets and the costumes worn by our cast. For musical talent and spectacle, you cannot find a higher standard locally.

Upcoming shows

BSMTC’s main production in 2014 is Jesus Christ Superstar, 10th – 15th November at Rhodes, Bishop’s Stortford

We perform once a year at Rhodes in Bishop’s Stortford and also perform a smaller spring show in May with a fish and chip supper. For a list of our upcoming shows, click here.
